Litany against Fear Anything December 26, 2008

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

While the litany, (devised by Frank Herbert, I take no credit), was intended to tide one through fear, I find that it works pretty well for everything; love, hate, anger, disappointment, envy (I’d go with all the rest of seven sins, but I don’t think it’d work with Sloth). Perhaps it appeals to my narcissist tendencies. It does not seem to be working on this growing realization that there are only 2 days left to this “vacation”.
